HAIR

There is more to hair types than physical appearance. Using our ultimate hair type quiz will get you closer to fully understanding your hair and how to know your curl type.

Hair Appearance

This is one of the most important hair type quiz that you need to answer in other to know your hair.  To accurately determine your hair type, let it dry naturally after your washing your hair. Once your hair has been completely air-dried without adding any product, then use our curl pattern chart to determine the closest hair type.

The 4 different hair types are:

Type 1: Straight with no curls

Type 2: Best described as wavy with s-shaped waves

Type 3: Curly with prominent and defined curl loops

Type 4: Coily with lots of tight spiral coils

Hair Thickness – Hair Structure

After determining your major hair type, determine your hair thickness/ hair structure. The diameter of your hair strands is referred to as hair thickness. The rougher the hair, the thicker the diameter.

How to determine the diameter of your hair: Rub a strand of hair back and forth between your fingers…

You have fine hair: If you can barely see it or feel it between your fingertips.

You have medium hair: If the hair strands appear slightly thicker and can be felt.

You have coarse hair: If the hair strand appears thicker and textured and feels dry.

 Hair Density

Hair thickness and density are not the same thing! People frequently mistake the diameter of the hair fiber for density! Hair density is the number of hair strands on your head. Hair density, like hair thickness, can vary greatly from person to person. Those with low density may have 80,000 hair fibers on their head, but those with high density may have 150,000 hair fibers.

There are three main categories of Hair Density:

Low Density: Thin Hair

Medium Density: Normal/ Medium Hair

High Density: Thick Hair

Hair Porosity

The porosity of your hair refers to its capacity to absorb moisture and natural nutrients from products. Understanding your hair porosity might help you take better care of your hair since you'll know how well it can hold moisture.

Low Porosity:  It usually takes a long time to dry without the use of a blow dryer or other heat sources. This hair type has a hard time absorbing hair care products.

Balanced Porosity:  Has a natural bounce and is often easy to maintain. Also, it is simple to style without using a lot of products.

High Porosity: Dries fast. Moisture may leave the hair just as readily as it can be absorbed. It normally needs a big amount of hair product and may occasionally fizz.
